Local Activities, Sights & Events of Interest to Visitors Yarmouth has a population of 7,568, and is a historic seaport that has enjoyed generations of successful commercial activity, mirrored in the local architecture.

Take one of the walking tours or take in one of the award-winning museums. Visit one of the finest lighthouses at Cape Forchu, swim the lakes, canoe the rivers and celebrate friendship, food and fun at one of 14 festivals running from June through October.

Yarmouth has a strong Acadian flavour and hearing French spoken on the streets, in the shops and restaurants is common. Soak up the Acadian culture with a lunch of Rappie Pie or take a short drive along Route 335 to the historical Pubnicos (Upper, Middle, Middle West, Middle East), the oldest continuous Acadian community, settled by families from France in 1651.

Other villages within easy distance of Yarmouth, Wedgeport known for it's sport tuna fishing, take a tour and visit the museum. The Village of Tusket, home to Canada's oldest standing Courthouse(1805), containing archives for historical and genealogical research.
