| Local Activities, Sights & Events of Interest to Visitors | Situated just south of the Muskoka Lakes, Orillia Aviation is one of the oldest and busiest floatplane bases in Ontario. It is a rare day that does not see several floatplanes coming and going at Orillia. The base is often used as a starting point for those venturing to the far North. The annual Fly-In/Splash-In attracted over 50 floatplanes and 50 wheel planes in past years. Free camping on the field. The Stinson Club will be holding an Annual Fly-In at the same time at Orillia. Every weekend there is a barbecue lunch available and the horseshoe pitch is always open. Fuel is available every day from 8 a.m. through to 7 p.m., local time.
Orillia - Lake St. John Airport and seaplane base is located 50 miles north of Toronto. Situated at the most southerly edge of the Precambrian Shield, the airport is on the doorstep to Ontario's vacation land and "cottage country." Within a short drive or flight are numerous resorts, camps, golf courses and the ever expanding entertainment complex Casino Rama. |
