Local Activities, Sights & Events of Interest to Visitors The Wingham Municipal Airport (aka Richard W. LeVan airport) was opened in 1996 as the result of concerted efforts by the management of Wescast Industries Inc. and the town council. It has a 4,000-foot paved runway, large ramp area, a terminal building and
three private hangars.

Wingham is a part of the Township of North Huron and is located on Highway 4, midway between London and Owen Sound, ON. It is a small but energetic town, providing many facilities and services usually associated with larger centres. It is known as the radio/television town of Canada, an industry started by "Doc" Cruickshank in 1922 when a small, low powered radio station commenced operations. A television studio was added in 1955 when this media was in its infancy. Both still operate today.

Wingham has three other major industries. Wescast Industries Inc. is the largest manufacturer of exhaust manifolds for cars and small trucks in the world, and has two casting plants and a machining plant in Wingham. Their newest casting plant adjoins the airport. Other industries include Royal Homes, manufacturers of modular homes, and Bi-Ax International, manufacturer of polyproplyene films.

Wingham has a fantastic recreational complex that includes an arena, swimming pool, large community hall, and squash courts.

The turn of the century town hall still houses modernized municipal offices as well as the Town Hall Heritage Theatre. Each year the theatre hosts many exceptional Canadian artists and local performers.

The air cadets use the airport on Saturday and Sundays in the Spring and Fall. Supervisory personnel maintain radio watch on 123.00 and provide advisories. Access to the building is available to pilots 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Wingham has many excellent restaurants, from fast food to fine dining.

Come and visit the friendly people of Wingham. You will be glad you did!
